Date Ice Cream

This ice cream is simple to make and oh so tasty. The flavor will mesmerize your family and guests. Great on top of a warm brownie.

3 cups half & half

2 tsp vanilla

6 egg yolks

2/3 cups date syrup

Beat together date syrup, egg yolks and vanilla until nice whipped consistency takes shape. Set aside. Pour half & half in saucepan and stir over medium heat until hot, but not boiling. Pour heated half & half slowly into egg mixture, mixing together well. Pour back into pan and stir over low heat for 4 minutes or until slightly thickened. Take off heat and let cool. Place in ice cream maker, or, freeze in metal pan, whisking the ice cream or using an electric hand mixer once every hour for 4 hours until nice and creamy.

Optional - Once mixture is half way through freezing process, mix in date pieces and/or nuts!

This ice cream is wonderful – thank you! Just made a batch of chocolate by adding 1/2 cup of dark cocoa powder to the initial mix. Wow!
